Overview

In business for over 40 years, Sunrise Medical Laboratories is a full service clinical laboratory servicing the New York City metropolitan area and its surrounding communities.​ Our service area covers Long Island, the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam Counties, and New Jersey.

 

Under the general supervision of the department supervisor, the cytoprep technician is responsible for preparing and processing all gyn and non-gyn specimens in order for the Cytology Department to review and diagnose slides.

Responsibilities

            Prints out slides scanning the bar code from the vial

          Matches the slides and vials before processing

          Places completed vials in corresponding bins for ancillary testing(HPV)

          Prepares NonGyn specimens and slides for pathologist

          Processes, stains and coverslips prepared slides

          Loads slides into trays for Surepath or cassettes for Thinprep imaging

          Books completed slides, places test request forms into folders and places the folders in numerical order in the cytology room for screening.

Qualifications

     High School Diploma required

     Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Clinical Laboratory

     Science preferred.

     NYS Department of Education License as a Clinical Laboratory Technician   

    Certified in the area of Clinical Laboratory Science by the American     

    Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or ASCP eligible preferred
